POINT-A-PITRE

If we look at the island of Guadalupe from the other side we immediately understand why it is called the butterfly island. In fact, its butterfly wings are two separate islands connected by bridges. Point a Pitre is the main port and the most important city in this French territory called the Lesser Antilles. Christopher Columbus arrived in the Antilles in 1493 thinking he was in India, but in fact he had arrived at Santa Maria de Guadalupe, a small island near Guadeloupe.
Point a Pitre is in the eastern wing of the island, which is called Grande Terre, and its history is studded with natural and other disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes and fires. The town and its population have always bounced back from great difficulties, making it a thriving and very active town today. Many Caribbean Cruises depart from here for seven-day cruises that visit 7 islands in 7 days.
